CB Fabricating, Inc. recently added an Amada ENSIS 3015 AJ fiber-laser-cutting machine, expected to more than double the sheetmetal-cutting capacity of the Anderson, IN-based fabricator.

“With our CO2 laser (an Amada NT Laser Flex Cell installed in 2014) running at full capacity, adding another machine just made sense,” says Chris Barkdull, owner of CB Fabricating. “This newer fiber-optic laser cutter runs cleaner parts faster, and uses less energy and consumables.”

The new fiber laser runs, on average, three times faster than a CO2 laser, according to Amada officials. The newer technology uses a thin, high-energy density beam to cut thin materials at high speed while retaining the ability to cut ferrous steel to 1 in. thick. This variable-beam-control technology also automatically and continuously matches the thickness of the metal sheet, providing clean, consistent cuts requiring less finish work, further improving production turnaround times.
